ecoMaker Check

Be up for the ecological challenges or prototyping

"If it can be imagined, it can be made" - with less ecological impact.

Welcome to ecoCheck - the tool for pupils, tinkerers, independents who
not only want their products to become reality but also want to think about the environmental impact from the very beginning.

The goal

The use of natural resources is associated with emissions such as CO2 and other environmental impacts - throughout the entire life cycle of products. This concerns companies as well as the production in makerspaces, the number of which is constantly growing, turning more and more people into producers themselves. No matter who produces, the largest influence is made when deciding on a design and a concept of use for your prototype or product. Because of rising amount

How it works

Within the tool you will make various decisions. Some of them you will have made before, others will be made in the context of the following questions. It will also not always be possible to give exact details, but try to make real estimates from your experience.
The data basis is an analysis and derivation of the usual prevailing production practices, technologies and materials in german makerspaces. These have been extensively investigated in terms of their environmental impact via life cycle assessment. The life cycle assessment is a procedure to record and evaluate environmentally relevant products, processes, services and also behaviour. The results will be included in the calculation of the individual environmental assessment of your project. We don't know your product, and we sometimes had to make assumptions such as the energy consumption during production with the laser cutter. But after running through all these questions you will get an overview of the estimated CO2 emissions and the Global Warming Potential (relative contribution to the greenhouse effect). It also shows in which product life phases the greatest potential for improvement can be found.

But let's find out, if you are an ecoMaker by starting the tool.
